The importance of correct signage in public spaces
Design should improve people’s lives. Because design isn’t about making something pretty, but rather about generating a unique identity that is consistently reflected in all the actions of a company or public entity.
In this sense, today we want to talk about the importance of proper signage in public spaces. It’s no secret that if a public space isn’t properly signposted for all types of people, it can cause many problems for citizens. We can all imagine, and may even have experienced, what happens when the signage in spaces like hospitals, airports, public transportation stations, or even a theater, is unclear or insufficient.
But what does this have to do with design? Well, everything. Because the design of signage for an institution or public service is key to ensuring that it is clear, direct, understandable, and sufficient in quantity for everyone.
Signage, moreover, must be a continuation of an institution’s graphic design.
With these key elements in mind, we designed the signage for the Aldaia Municipal Market, part of the Aldaia City Council. The signage is based on complete consistency with the market’s corporate identity and was designed in collaboration with market management and the market’s own merchants.

The collaboration between everyone has made possible a contemporary and modern design for a local market, combining avant-garde and tradition to create clear and simple signage, completely accessible to everyone, easy to follow and distinctive from other similar local markets.
The result has been highly satisfactory for both the organization and the public, who have seen easier access to the market and the shops and services within it. All of this, while remaining consistent with the market’s identity, generates an image clearly identifiable by the population of Aldaia and surrounding municipalities.
Once again, at Angelgráfico, we use design as a fundamental axis and tool to improve people’s lives. Because if design isn’t useful, it isn’t design.
